BMW Motorsports has announced that paralympic gold medalist, two-time CART champion, and all-around inspirational human being Alex Zanardi will be piloting the factory Z4 GT3 in the Blancpain GT series this coming year, after four years away from competitive motorsport.
As a fan of Alex's not just as a competitor but as a person, I couldn't be more stoked. I cheered for him in the WTCC, and since the Blancpain Series is one of my favorite racing series in the world, it just makes the racing all that much better now that I have a driver to root for. I imagine a lot of racing fans just found a new favorite driver in the series as well.

Didn't know who this guy was, so I looked him up. How is he still alive after that crash?! amazing.

It really is astonishing that Zanardi survived, much less retaining his physical capabilities. IIRC the medical team found his injuries so grave they had the track chaplain read him his last rites, though ultimately the team's quick response is apparently what saved Zanardi's life.

I will never forget watching "The Pass" at Laguna Seca when I was a 3 year old.

Wow that's amazing, it's great that he's getting back in the driver's seat.

This guy is amazing. If anyone else had done half the inspirational things he has done in their lifetime, they would have retired already, but Mr. Zanardi has decided not to stop. I can't fathom how he can find a driving suit beg enough for his balls.
